Research Methods Seminar

The purpose of the Research Methods Seminar is to prepare sophomores enrolled in mid-level science laboratory courses for work in a research lab, either on-campus or off-campus. Seminar discussions focus on searching the scientific literature, defining research hypotheses, laboratory safety, maintaining accurate data records, the display and interpretation of results, the presentation of research in oral and written formats, and scientific ethics. Instructors assist the students with lab placements, and support from HHMI allows each participant to attend a regional or national scientific meeting. The seminar is co-taught by faculty from Biology and Chemistry.
